The city of Javea Spain is to be found 80 km north east of Alicante, between
Denia and Altea. As with many other areas on the Spanish coast, the centre of
Javea was surrounded by city walls as a protection against attacks from the
Barbary pirates. Today, a few stretches of these fortifications can still be
seen.
The old quarter is squeezed onto a knoll around a fortified 14C Gothic church. The modern part of this elegant seaside resort developed near the harbour and around the Platja de l'Arenal, where the parador is located. Avenida del Mediterraneo which runs along the Javea harbor area offers many restaurants and bars.
