Calpe

La Cambra Homemade food from Miguel Martinez, owner of the restaurant La Cambra and who already has been in his beautiful restaurant in the Calle Delfin for over 15 years. The "Comedor" in the first floor is tastefully decorated, and the restaurant is in the Michelin Guide. "Arroz con Morena", made from Moray eel has become his best known dish. Its all very reasonably prices for the quality, and the Monday to Saturday lunch menu is particularly good value

Los Zapotos Egon Abb offers on his menu a mixture from various ethnic cuisines from the French, Arab and Asiatic kitchens. For example Porc Filet prepared with green curry based a Thai recipie, from Egypt comes yellow lentil soup with mint, race el hanout originating from Morocco. The wine cellar is excellent.

El Bodegon In Calpe (side road off the main street, down the hill from the gear shop) first class quality food and service.

Baydal at the Calpe Port is worth the trip. Serves good fish and paella

Puerto Blanco is a good restaurants in Calpe situated next to the small harbour of La Canuta. Follow sign for Mar y villa (Maryvilla), turn right on small roundabout opposite Guardia follow road down hill for 1k located at sharp rightbend with harbour in front. - Tel: 965830977

 

Moraira

Girasol The "hautest' cuisine on offer in the whole area. A Michelin two star. On the Moraira-Calpe coast road on the right about 1.5 km south of Moraira. Tel 96 574 4373 open daily except Monday

La Sort hotel, bar and restaurant in Moraira village. One of the longest established restaurants in the area, and regularly recommended in the Michelin guide. It is located in the centre of Moraira, by the seafront. Family run, good food, particularly fresh local fish

Antoniet is another good place at Moraira-Teulada for seafood paellas and fish. Avda. de la Pau, Moraira Tel: 96 574 40 16. On the corner of one of the new apartment blocks in Moraira, with a palm tree-lined square in the middle. A good salad then Arroz Abanda is highly recommended, as is the fresh fish.

Le Dauphin at Playa del Portet. Michelin recommended, restaurant serving excellent food by an experienced young Belgian couple. Spectacular sea views from the restaurant and laid-out terraces. Take the road to El Portet beach and take the left walkway along the beach and the restaurant is above to the left.

Casa Dorita Tucked away from the high street in Moraira, opposite the church on the pedestrianised street, this family run restaurant offers excellent regional dishes. It is recommended in the Michelin guide. They specialise in locally caught fresh fish, usually grilled.

La Bona Taula 1.5 km. along the Calpe road, is located on the cliff edge with steps down to the beach. It specialises in fresh fish and Galician meats.

Benitachell

Connies steakhouse which specialises in meats which are slowly cooked on hot stones at your table.

Montivideo Crta Cumbre del Sol, Benitachell. Tel 96 649 3285. Good restaurant, on the left on the Benitachell-Cumbre del Sol road, this old farmhouse surrounded by vineyards has been converted into an excellent, reasonably priced, restaurant run by a young Swiss who has gained a reputation for good food, especially his barbecued meats, in an attractive setting. Open all year but closed on Thursdays.

Teulada

Local residents often make the trip up to Teulada Town just for the menu at the restaurants Avenida and Mediterraneo (which is actually the dining room of the hostal with the same name). They both provide a salad, starter, main course, desert, coffee, wine and bread

La Naya Partida Benimarco, 1, Teulada Tel: 96-6498900 It is in the country with views towards the sea from the large terrace. The special dish is the succulent baked lamb (Cordero Assado), and you could have the stuffed mussels as a starter. Take the Teulada road and after leaving the town turn left, just before the overhead railway track, signposted Benimarco/Calpe and follow this winding road until you come to a T-junction and you will see signs for the restaurant.

Javea

Gota de Mar - French/Italian cuisine; Delightful poolside terrace. Cabo La Nao road on right after El Rancho Tel 96 577 1648 Xcept WedRestaurante. Set in a large private villa, they have tables outside around the pool and it is popular with locals. A good value four course menu including wine. Take the road from Benitachell to Javea beach (a mile after Benitachell and turn right with the sign for L'Scala to your right), but turn right for Cabo La Nao at the second t-junction, and the restaurant is to the right.

Elefante, Cami Cabanes - Partida Cap Sades, 19 03730 JAVEA (ALICANTE) is close to Javea the provides "gourmet" cuisine in the rustic setting of a beautiful old country house with surrounding terraced gardens.

Las Remos

Chez Angel - French brasserie, well priced fixed munu. Among shops close to Humpty Dumpty, on Arenal main road on right, after traffic light tel 96 579 2723 except Tue Address: Ctra. Cabo La Nao, 2-3, Javea Park (On left – midway – in the main cluster of shops) Excellent gourmet menu in pleasant surroundings.

La Rustica - Very good cuisine, Belgian owned. Camino Cabanes - take small road down side of Barclays Bank, right at cross roads; it's along on the left Tel 96 577 0855 Xcept Mon. Camino Cabanos, Javea. Well cooked and presented food, in an old 'rustic' villa which is popular. Take the road from Benitachell to Javea beach (a mile after Benitachell and turn right with the sign for L'Scala to your right), and when you arrive to the first t-junction turn left and the restaurant is about 50 yards to the left.

L'Scala Set in an old rustic farmhouse home of a very eccentric Argentinean (a former opera singer who is known for his impromptu recitals). They serve superb meats that are hung over a barbecue, an Argentinean speciality, and you can have a light tapas for starters all reasonably priced. The house wine, served in jugs, is recommended. They also have an outside terrace, with a small number of tables, with valley views. There is a sign for the restaurant on the Benitachell-Javea road, about 1 km from the traffic light junction, where you turn right.

L'Escut Pleasant choice in a villa with very well-kept exteriors. Landscaped areas, terrace for the summer and an inside dining room with good furnishings and table service.

Rodat Nicely kept facilities where the café and the restaurant share the same space.

 

Benissa

Casa Cantó (Benissa). "And nobody can refuse to an Arròs Ximo, an Arròs de Senyoret, a Putxero de Polp or a Cruet de Peix (Casa Cantó’s specialities) Casa Cantó is a restaurant (the quality always ready to break out) with the particularity of offering an individual rice not mattering how many people have sat down to eat"

La Barra del Canto - The old building of Casa Canto has been turned into a tapas bar that offers a variety of tasty kebabs. In the tiled dining room they serve tapas, rice and daily specials.

Cases de San Jaume Dining area with two rooms, one of them on a covered terrace, with stone walls.

Al Zaraq - Lebanese - on the N332, S. of Benissa (on RH bend just before the Venta de Chata Hotel. Delightful ambience and really excellent. Tele 96 573 1615

Denia

El Poblet at Denia (the simply boiled red shrimp from Denia are phenomenal, but there's also a lot of modern stuff like the monkfish and lobster 'suquet', or stew, with walnuts and lemon verbena, or the 'rascasse' in a chamomile infusion); El Poblet Las Marinas, km 2,5 Denia, Alicante Tel: 965-784-179 Dinner for two over 100 Euro

La Seu. Extremely good superior Spanish restaurant. The interior is stylish without being fussy and intimidating. The staff are friendly, helpful with the menu and efficient. The food, inventive regional Spanish dishes well cooked and presented using the freshest ingredients. Miquel Ruiz, chef and owner of "La Seu" has closed his restaurant in Moraira and will be opening his new “La Seu” in Denia. It’ll be located in the new marina of Denia. He’s already opened a bar right beside the restaurant for “tapas” and “paellas”.

Casa Pepa, Casa Pepa at Ondara (the best 'arroz meloso', i.e. the juicy rices that are Spain's answer to risotto, and thus quite different from the dry paellas); Ca'Sento at Valencia, which is a great restaurant in the making; Nou Manolín in Alicante, a large popular sprawling polace, where such paella dishes like arroz con magro (with pork) are done perfectly. Casa Paco appears to be the place to get an authentic paella--one with rabbit and snails

Jalon Valley

Hallelujah Bar, is a very quaint bar, which merits a visit or two.Travelling inland it is well worth going through the Jalon Valley. This is agricultural country with almond/orange and lemon groves. The road can be quite narrow in places, especially through some of the villages. There are bodegas where you can have a wine tasting and purchase supplies at good prices. Try the local muscatel.

Pepe's, Beni Rossa and La Solana are others.

There are mountain passes through the Valley which take you to Altea or Benidorm. Although the routes are very scenic the roads can be narrow and the mountains high. A camera is essential on these trips.

Verdi Vent Crta Jalon-Bernia Km 5. Tel: 96 5973413 If you want to take a drive inland and want lunch in the mountains then this is an ideal place. Extremely good value at €15 a head which consists of a four course meal and wine included! Set in the Sierra Bernia mountain range (national park) it is a thirty minute drive from Moraira through beautiful valleys. The restaurant itself is a rustic farmhouse set on its own within a mountain valley setting and very peaceful. They speak English. Closed Tuesdays. Take the road to Benissa, direction Alicante, and once you have passed the town then take the next turning right, signposted Jalon/Pinos and once you enter Jalon, by the petrol station, follow signs for Sierra Bernia and you will find the restaurant on the left after 5 kilometers of winding road.
