Fiestas in Santa Pola, Costa Blanca, Spain

Throughout the year Santa Pola has a number of important fiestas.

In March and April there are the Mig Any or half-year pageants of the Moors and Christians.

In June there is a Romeria or pilgrimage to the Hermitage of the Virgin of the Rosary on the Cape of Santa. This small hermitage on the sloopes of the Cape is a shrine to the Virgen del Rosário.

Just before mid-summer, on July 16th the local sailors pay tribute to their patron saint, La Virgen del Carmen. A procession of the Patron Saint of the Sea passes through the port with flowers, fireworks, concerts and the "Gran Sardinada" by the sea.

The main fiesta is between 1st and 8th September in honour of La Virgen de Loreto with street processions, parades and giant parties. The first part of the fiesta is the Moors and Christians. Their elegant parade, plus reconstructions of the arab landing and the taking and retaking of Castle, is held on the day 3. The "Unió de Festers" then take over the parades, with the parade of floats and groups. There are more fireworks, "mascletá" and the Virgen de Loreto in procession on day 8.

The year's fiestas finish on December 10th with the arrival of the Mother of God, by sea.- Vinguda de la Mare de Deu
