Torreon de la Peca, Calpe, Costa Blanca, Spain.

This is the defence tower which was the Christian town's chief line of defence against invasion from the 15th century onwards.

Cross of May Fiesta on May 1st, when a cross covered in flowers is carried in a procession from the Town Hall to Torreon de la Peca where it is presented. There are performances by folk groups from Andalucia dressed in traditional costume and a carnival queen is elected.

"La Peça", means a piece of artillery. And four Swedish made cannons dating from the 18th century, have been found in the port of Calpe, two of them have been preserved next to Torreon de la Peça.

Part of the town wall near the north face of El Terreón has been knocked down to make an arch linking the Torreón square and La Villa square.
