Torreblanca, Valencia, Spain

Torreblanca, a modern town 36 km north of Castellón, and south of the Mountain range of Irta. It has around 5,000 inhabitants. It gets its name from one of the old watch tower, the Tower of Doña Blanca.

A Muslim town before it was conquered by the troops of Jaime I. It remained a small town therefter, and today attracts tourists to its beaches.


The Tower of the Marquess, medieval in style, belonged to Doña Blanca, a descendant of Jaime I.

The Ancient Church of San Francisco of XIVth century.

The Parochial Church of San Bartholomew, built by Juan Barceló in XVIIIth century. The church holds valuable works like El Salvador, of Josep Ferrer, or passages of the life of San Bartholomew by Joaquin Oliet, in the cupola.

The Natural Park of the Prat is separated from the sea by a gravel band and accumulations of sandy deposits that make up the salt marshes of the Park. Native species are found here like the gambeta, the lubina "llobarro", smooth "llisa", the eel or the American red crab, exotic species introduced recently.

The beach of Torrenostra is sandy and has clean water.

January sees the celebration of the traditional week of fiestas in Honor to San Antonio starting with Abbot Day on 17th and Santa Lucia Day on 18th January. They are celebrated every year in one of the eleven districts with processions, exhibitions of cattle and the tasting of the "Pastissets de Sant Antoni".

Torrenostra, a fishing town, celebrates the fisherman's day on the 16th of July with a mass in the beach and bullfighting. And, finally San Bartholomew's Day (of the 23 of August to the 1 of September) with religious acts, offering of flowers to the Santísimo Christ of the Calvario. Also it is possible to emphasize the traditional representation from 1979, of the sacred drama of the "Passio '".

You can taste the typical Valencian paella, barbecues of fish and seafood or typical local specialities - the "torreblanquina pot", "empedronat of fesols" and, of dessert, "pastissets of Sant Antoni", "the jar negre", "codony", "cocaine Cristina" and the "Cocaine d'ametla".
