Benicàssim, Valencia, Spain

Town and beach resort is located 13km north of Castelló de la Plana, on the north of the Valencian Community, Spain (pop. 10,800). It is famous for the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, one of the most important summer indie music events in Europe.

On the 29th November 1242 James I granted the Castle or Montornés and this land to his secretary Don Pedro Sanz in payment for services rendered in the reconquest of Spain from the hands of the Moors. Prior to the reconquest, the Castle of Montornés was one of the important Arab fiefs in this region.

Today the beaches have attracted tourists.

Voramar Beach

The Voramar Beach is in a quiet residential area in the north of the area and is one of Benicasim´s most prestigious areas. Two films have been shot here, onein the mid-1900´s (Novia a la Vista) and the other in 1999 (Segunda Piel).

You can see the early 20th century villas from its promenade which gave rise to Benicasim being known as the Biarritz of the Levante.

A Blue Flag beach with fine sand and shallow shores for safe bathing.

Almadrava Beach

It is a southern continuation of Voramar beach. It has has a number of restaurants and bars. As with Voramar beach, it is flanked by a pedestrian-only promenade. Again fine sand and shallow shores characterise the beach, and it also has the Blue Flag.

Torre San Vicente Beach

Named after the fine old watchtower that dominates this beach, it is one of the busiest beaches.

Els Terrers Beach

The Valencian Sailing School is located here, offering sailing lessons.

Helopolis Beach

Promenade and buildings here were constructed during the 1960's. There are a number of market stalls lining the promenade.
